About me:
I'm thrilled that you've made it this far! Here's some more about me:
I have my MFA in Scenic Design from Florida State University, and I have extensive experience as a scenic, lighting, and projection designer professionally as well as in academic settings. I was Assistant Professor of Theater and Resident Designer/Technical Director at Cardinal Stritch University for 5 1/2 years, Assistant Professor of Scenic and Properties Design at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for three years, and Assistant Professor of Scenic Design at the State University of New York Fredonia for four years. I’m an active member of USITT, where I recently presented at the national conference in St. Louis. My session was titled “Making Projections Dynamic with Adobe After Effects”.
Teaching, learning, and experimenting are at the core of my theatrical philosophy. For example, I'll sketch, paint, and build models for productions all via traditional media and I'm perfectly at home teaching those techniques as well. Keeping those skills sharp is important. When appropriate, I'll also draw and paint digitally, build computer models, and use 3D printing to convey my designs. Using and teaching these tools is equally important as their traditional counterparts, and my personal sense of curiosity and urge to learn help keep me current in my craft.
Because I feel strongly about teaching as a way of collaborating in theatre, I have extensive experience managing and collaborating with groups both large and small, professionals and newcomers alike. Adapting my communication to serve that variety of audiences has made it possible to succeed artistically, professionally, and personally.
